Encourage Everybody And It Will Come Back To You!

Author : Dr. Gary S. Goodman
Why are grandparents so nice? Why do their grandkids love them so much? It's not because of the toys they bring.I believe it's because they're so completely and utterly positive with the little ones, providing a sense of support that isn't given, or perhaps cannot be given, by parents. They're 100% encouraging. "You can do it!" is one of their main messages, and let me tell you, this is one statement that never goes out of style, inside or outside of the family. If you want to be popular as a manager, a businessperson, or a professional, find a way to sound positive, all the time. Even if you have to break bad news, soften the blow by following a negative with a positive."Gee, Mike your sales were down this quarter, but I'm sure we'll pick them up; I know you can do it!"You've heard the expression that says if you think you can do it, you're right; and if you don't think you can do it; you're also right!Where do we get the idea that we can or can't, to begin with?Largely, we internalize what others expect from us. If they're discouraging, we'll feel discouraged. When they encourage, we're encouraged; and we're much more likely to succeed at anything. One more point: When you encourage others it comes back to you, in fact, instantaneously. You'll feel lighter, emotionally, uplifted, because you did something positive.I suppose that taps into another idea you've heard: It's impossible to help others without helping ourselves, at the sale time!Dr. Gary S.
