Self Discipline - The Key to Accomplishment and Happiness

One of the greatest keys to accomplishment and happiness is making yourself live your life the way you know you should. When your conscience is in harmony with your values, you feel peace.Having trouble in any of area of life? All you need is a little self discipline.Easier said than done, right? Here's some tips.You have heard, "start with the end in mind." "Focus on the reward." "Frame your desire." "Don't start until it's finished." And so on. It seems like nearly all the great people you read about have this in common. A strong mental image of the end results they desire.So, let's start by deciding how you want to end up and how you don't want to end up. Then we will look at the choices and habits that will make the difference between the two outcomes.Fat and Lazy vs. Energetic and Strong
Broke vs. Rich
Wicked vs. Righteous
Depressed vs. Joyful
Ignorant vs. Wise For each item in the list, write down a couple reasons you don't want the negative result and a couple reasons you do want the positive result. Then list the things that cause each one. Now you can see what behaviors you need to change. Let's go through the first one as an example:Fat and Lazy vs. Energetic and StrongBeing fat and lazy causes a lot of problems. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc. Plus, it doesn't look the best. Laziness causes depression and anger.What will make us fat and lazy?
Watching a lot of TV
Eating unhealthy food (and therefore not enough energy to exercise)
Eating too much food
Lack of exercise
Staying up late and sleeping in
OK, so we will avoid those.Being strong and energetic gives us confidence, increases longevity, and makes you feel good.What will make us energetic and strong?Physical activity every day (enroll in something if it will motivate you)
Eating right (mostly vegetables, fruit, and whole grain)
Eat the right amount (don't starve yourself, but don't keep eating when you have had enough)
Get to bed on time and get up early
StretchingNot too difficult, right? I think we can do this for one day.Now try this with the other list items.Perhaps right now you are looking at the list you have created and saying to yourself, "I can't do all those things for the rest of my life. That would be too hard to maintain." I would suggest that you try it for a day. Just one day. That's really all we need to worry about anyway, isn't it? The choices of the day?Whether you were successful today or not, tomorrow morning, look at the list again and make your choices. Eventually, your choices will become habits, and your habits will become your character. And your character will determine your eternal destiny.Bret and Sharie are freedom fighters for family values.
