The federally required standardized tests required by the 5-year old "No Child Left Behind" act are necessary but not efficient, according to a new study released by the Public Agenda, a nonprofit organization involved in "nonpartisan public policy research," according to their website.According to the report "Reality Check 2006: Is Support for Standards and Testing Fading?" the parents were asked to choose one of the following hypothetical candidates to improve their children's education: "one running on a platform of standards and testing, a second backing vouchers, a third backing charter schools, and a fourth calling for more money for schools and smaller classes." The last candidate was selected by a majority over all the other candidates. The standardized testing candidate came in a distant second. The study detected a parallel shift in perceived priorities as well. Only 14% of parents surveyed complained from the low academic standards in their children's schools compared to 26% back in 1994. 20% of the surveyed parents pointed out to lack of focus on the basics as the most important educational problem, in contrast to 28% back in 1994.However, these same results may also indicate that the efforts of the last 5 years might have started to yield their sweet fruits. Although less than 22% of the principals and 9% of the superintendents named the No Child Left Behind Act as a "pressing issue," over 42% said they still believe that such standardized test would actually help raise their students' test scores and general academic achievement levels.Having solved the most basic quantitative issues facing American education, perhaps the educators and the public are now ready for some qualitative upgrades like smaller classes and a wider variety of specialized curriculum offerings.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dr. Gulden Akinci is an author and a tutor with over 20 years of experience in math and science tutoring at high school and college level. Her new 400-page book "Private Tutor (TM) for SAT Math Success 2006" is the culmination of her years of experience in the field and brings together 1,000 exercises and examples on 50 different Math subject at 3 different difficulty levels.See a preview at http://www.lulu.com/content/263630Akinci's innovative and patented "Private Tutor" Method provides a customized, fast, complete, effective and affordable method to increase SAT math scores that has been tested successfully on all levels of high school students.Dr. Akinci can be reached for all your SAT and math questions through her official web site http://www.privatetutor.us
