Everything Your Parents Did Not Tell You About Expectations

Author : Markus Eriksson
There are few things in life that effect our relationships, our ecounters and our interactions with other people as much as expectations.Every time we move in a new experience of any kind we conciously or unconciously create different sets of hopes about what it will be like, what will happen and so on. Often we also create fears, things we do not wish to happen. Meaning we create a set of expectations. These can be a powerful ally and they can also be a pit fall that can mess things up in the most well meant interactions.Imagine the following scenario; a Thursday meeting has been called at Department C3. On the agenda that has been sent out well in advance there is the item “Purchase of new computers”. Charlie goes to the meeting filled with a feeling of “finally it is time to get new computers” and looks forward to a quick decision that leads to buying and even better starting to use the new computers. On his way to the same meeting is Brian. He looks forward to meeting his collegues again and having time to discuss things that will lead to improvements in the workplace and of the company. He thinks “it is a great thing that a meeting has been called so we together can really find the best alternative for new computers”. Charlie arrives at the meeting looking forward to a fast and powerful decision, Brian arrives inspired by the thought of thorough discussion that leads to a well thought through decision.About fifteen minutes later Charlie and Brian have collided head on. Either in a verbal flow of words or in wordless communication in the form of sighs and frustrated body language. Charlie is highly annoyed perceiving Brian as a slow thinking snail and Brian feels that Charlie is a high-speed bulldozer that just wants to run people over. This image of each other, is not spoken of though, instead they hit it out by being extremely not in agreement on the size of RAM-memory in the new computers. It is clearly possible that there are other aspects of Charlies and Brians relationship that need to be dialogued, but if they had started the meeting with airing their expectations on meeting, they could have spent their energy talking about what their differences were really about, i.e. different expectations. Not on playing a mental and verbal tennis game around what is was really not about, i.e. the number of mega bytes in the RAM.The advice to you is a simple as it is powerful, make it a habit to start all your meetings with a round-up of the expectations on the meeting. If somebody expects a five-minute quick meeting and somebody else a one-hour thorough meeting it is of great value to get this out in to the open. Another example is if somebody wants a fact-filled decision meeting versus somebody else who feels it is important to spend time on discussing the relationships in the group, then that needs to be adressed also.Great is the number of relationships and conversations that have dug a hole for themselves due to unspoken expectations both in private life and at work. There is an expression that goes “assume makes an ASS out of U and ME”. There are many conflicts that I have encountered during my years of work in organizations and with people that could have been prevented and resolved in their early stages if the people involved would have been able to speak to each other about their mutual expectations on each other and the doings ahead.
What were your expectations when you started reading this text? Did you hope for something that would give the answer to all your questions, something that solves your present problem or were you hoping for something that would stimulate your own thinking and give you tools to create your own solution to your problems? Regardless of which was true for you these different expectations will have effected how you feel now at the end of the text.I wish for you excellent, rewarding and productive interactions with other people. It is my sincere hope that the above be helpful to you. If you haven’t already start practicing the question “what do you expect from this/me?” and put your listening ears on.Markus ErikssonThe author Markus Eriksson, is an international developer of human potential, having worked with organizations, leaders and individuals in Asia, Europe and America for over 10 years. Avoiding a Bad Search Engine Optimization Experience

Author : James Peggie
As a provider of search marketing services we have many enquiries from companies that have had a bad search engine optimization (SEO) experience in the past and are looking for a reputable company to work with. Often these clients have been banned from search engines because the companies that they have hired to improve their search rankings use quick fix, unethical SEO techniques. What can you do to ensure that this does not happen to your business? Or if you have had problems in the past how can you be sure that these experiences will never happen again?
It is essential that you take care in choosing who you work with as this company will be responsible for representing you and your business. Would you hire a new employee, a lawyer or an accountant without doing any research? There is a lot at stake here so it is essential that you do the groundwork and be as informed as possible. These companies may be representing you – but it will still be your site and your business. It is your responsibility to know what the SEO company is doing and if it is using unethical techniques. It is your site so you should be aware of the techniques being used to promote your business and that search engine guidelines are being followed.Often these unscrupulous companies offer a guaranteed meteoric rise in ranking and the lure of quick profits. Remember if it seems to be too good to be true then it usually is. Avoid companies that email you their services – or even worse - the ones that send out a fake invoice for their services. If they are presenting their services in this manner you probably have a good insight into their general business principles. What should you do when evaluating a search engine optimization company?• Determine your business goals and your goals for search marketing. Find out what your SEO expectations are. Are you in a competitive marketplace? What is your search marketing budget?• You should ask around. Which companies are people you know recommending? A successful SEO will get a high percentage of their clients from referrals.• Do they communicate clearly with you? Are they interested in your business? Are they trying to inform you about the industry and not just selling?• Where is their site in the search engine results? If the company is good at SEO then their site should be ranked well, if their site is not listed in the rankings you need to wonder why.• Ask for step by step information on what they will do to promote your site. If there is any area which your gut tells doesn't sound right do your research. There is plenty of information available for you to research. Type "ethical SEO" and 'search engine spam" into Google and you will find lots of data to compare.• What is their Page Rank? A PR of 3 is relatively easy to get with a small site, while a PR of 6 is harder, and above that is extremely difficult. If you're approached by a SEO company (or any marketing company for that matter) with a PR of 0 or an unranked site ask why.• What is their customer support like? When you first approached them did you receive a form email in reply? Did they even look at your website? Did you receive a detailed proposal along with testimonials and other backup material? Ask for references and follow up on them.• Do they know SEO or is it just a sideline to their main business (web design, web hosting, advertising agency). If you speak to anyone in this industry you will find out that keeping up to date on the latest SEO information is a full time job.• How much experience do they have? Are they new to the industry in which case do you want them experimenting on your site?• Has the company ever turned down a site because it could not be successfully optimized? e.g. sites built with frames or flash sites. Or turned them down because they were involved in unethical business practices e.g. link farms.• Make comparisons with other companies. Some SEO companies rely on one aspect of SEO (e.g. linking campaigns), others offer a complete package. Remember to compare like with like. There is no point in comparing a proposal which is just going to cover meta tags and keywords to a proposal which is a full service SEO package including optimization, content creation, and a links campaign.• Does the company provide ongoing maintenance to maintain your rankings? Search engines change their algorithms constantly and without regular monitoring and maintenance rankings will eventually slip. What is good today may not be good tomorrow. There are a growing number of excellent and ethical search engine optimization companies out there. Do your research and find out who they are. Also develop an understanding of what is involved in developing a search marketing program. Take an assertive stance and become informed. Also, use your common sense. Developing a search marketing plan should be as involved as developing a traditional marketing plan. It requires hard work and dedication. Find out the costs involved and put together a search marketing budget. Shop around and be aware of other business factors being offered by the SEO company such as customer service and payment terms. If you look upon the process of choosing an SEO company as you would in choosing a business partner then you are headed in the right direction. It could be that a large part of the success of your business is reliant on search marketing - so you should do the groundwork and find out what is involved. Then you can make an informed decision and feel confidant that you have chosen a quality business partner who is dedicated towards helping your business grow.Copyright © James PeggieJames Peggie is the Director of Marketing for Elixir Systems – a search engine marketing agency located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Accelerating Alternative Energy

Author : Lance Winslow
The President of the United States of America has stated that our nation is addicted to Foreign Oil and that we need to break the habit if we are to continue to use the amounts of energy that we do. Few can deny this truth and the answer is technology in alternative energies and alternative fuels. But how can the United States turn this great big ship around and be able to become more self-efficient?In 2005 we only sold a few hundred thousand hybrid automobiles out of about 17 million total cars. That is a start, okay, I'll give you that, but it is not a good start and you are not going to break any speed records to breaking your addiction that way. We must accelerate production to neck break speeds, like we did in WWII when we out produced the Germans and won WWII.Of course our problems are not only with gasoline for our cars. What about our aircraft, trains, ships and trucks too. Consider how much diesel fuel and kerosene they need? Something must be done here too. Likewise consider our costs to produce energy in our nation. They keep going up and natural gas prices due to fluctuations in supply will continue to see price spikes as commodity traders watch the supply and demand issues each year.If we are to win the energy war and break our addiction to foreign Middle Eastern Oil it is going to take more than lip service, as we must accelerate alternative energy uses and increase research and development and move this stuff to market as fast as possible as if we were at war. Consider this in 2006.Lance Winslow

Christmas gift ideas

Author : ravi

Christmas is such a special day. It is a day of giving and receiving love, joy and happiness. The Christmas spirit is very pure; just like the immaculate conception of Mother Mary and the birth of Jesus Christ. By giving away Christmas gifts, an individual experiences the joys of giving. The best thing about Christmas gifts is that they need not cost the skies to make an impression. When gifts are exchanged on Christmas, all that matters is the amount of love with which it was made or purchased. Best way to do a Christmas shopping is to do it online. No need to rush about stores and malls. Just a few clicks of the mouse will do; your gifts are ready to be dispatched in no time at all.

In case you need some ideas to help you decide upon the best Christmas gifts different categories of people, then here you go:

CHILDREN look forward to Christmas gifts the most. Hence all efforts should be made to buy the best gift for them. Remember, they can get easily disappointed. The best thing about buying gifts for children is that they can actually be asked what exactly they want for Christmas. Kids do not have inhibitions and are bound give an honest answer. Toys, games CDs and clothes usually top their list. Find out if the kid is a bookworm. In that case, a mystery novel would do the trick. Sweets and chocolates are a must and should form a part of the gift you plan to give the kid. This doubles the pleasure of the child when he opens your gift packet.
WOMEN would never tell anybody what they actually want as a gift. So you have to make an educated guess. Apart from jewelry, clothes and accessories you can choose from the following items as a gift.

# Exquisite crystal or ceramic figurines and nativity scenes
# Sweet smelling candles of different sizes and shapes
# Carved musical jewelry boxes
# Decorative pieces like vases and photo frames
# Musical albums
# Cutlery and glassware
# Recipe books

MEN take a fancy to leather goods of all kinds. Leather wallets, jackets, bags and belts are ideal for them. Formal shirts, T-shirts, sweaters and socks are preferred clothing articles. If the man were a sporty kind, then he wouldnt mind the occasional baseball or golf stick. Electronic goods are of course a favorite with most men.

CORPORATE Christmas gifts can include holidays, holiday trips and outings. Gift items are very formal like annual diaries, files and folders.

BABIES can be given soft toys; cradles, milk bottles, diapers and baby care products like soaps, oils and powders are also preferable.

Vacuum The Grime, Vacuum The Past

Author : Robert Thatcher
Modern era demands high regard to time element. There are lots of things that need to be done. Thus, you have to be organized and tactful in order to finish every thing that is expected of you.You play several roles – as an employee, spouse, parent and child. All of these roles demand something from you. Each has a set of duties attached. Nonetheless, you have to make the most out of your time.Sometimes these roles become to demanding that you can hardly accomplish them. As a consequence, you are left in a state of perplexity and adversity.Good thing though that there are some equipments that can help you make your life easier. Examples of these equipments are cell phones, fax machine, photocopier, washing machine, vacuum cleaner and more.Speaking of vacuum cleaner, in the present scenario, almost every household has this equipment. It helps families clean up their dwellings. It is cleaning up the easy and fast way.Have you ever wonder how is it to live without a vacuum cleaner? In the past, instead of a vacuum cleaner, homemakers used brushes and cloths to clean their house. They have the so-called 'spring cleaning' which is an annual clean-up habit. This one is more exhaustive compared to daily or weekly cleaning. This is because they do it manually.
The very first patent paper of a vacuum sweeper was on 1860. Said patent was in the name of Daniel Hess who is a resident of West Union, Iowa.Hess' invention has 2 water chambers that seize dust and dirt. However, he called his invention a carpet sweeper not a vacuum cleaner. In this invention, it is said that the air is cleansed while it passes through the equipment. This principle is used by Rexair vacuums. The very first vacuum cleaner came into the scene through its inventor Ives McAffey in the year 1869 in Chicago. It was a hand-pumped vacuum cleaner called 'Whirlwind'. You can find a replica of the latter in Hoover Historical Center found in Canton, Ohio. His invention has most of the components of today's vacuum cleaner. The only lacking is the motor. McAffey has only incorporated a motor in the early 1900's nonetheless it did not flourish. In the 20th century, several electric vacuum cleaners were introduced to the market to boost Industrial Revolution.Cecil Booth, in 1901, invented a gigantic vacuum cleaner powered by an engine. It was so huge that it needs to be mounted on a cart. Booth's invention was a big hit. In fact, Queen Victoria was one of the inventor's customers.Said vacuum cleaner was also given the credit for ending the English Plague in the naval barracks. It was used to remove dust and dirt which are causes of germs. Fortunately, said plague ended.Since then, the idea of preventing the spread of germs has been adapted in the manufacture of vacuum cleaners. The first electric version of Booth's machine was used in 1907. An electric motor was attached to it by Murray Spangler. He also attached fan motor, pillow case, wooden crate and broom handle to it.One of Spangler's satisfied customers was the wife of William Hoover. The latter realized the machine's potential so he bought its patent's right. Consequently, Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Company came into being in 1908.Today's vacuum cleaner brands such as Royal, Kirby, Electrolux, Eureka, Hoover and the likes have been traced to have existed in the early days of 1920 or earlier.Robert Thatcher is a freelance publisher based in Cupertino, California. He publishes articles and reports in various ezines and provides vacuum cleaner resources on http://www.your-vacuum-cleaner.info

How to Become an Expert on Anything

Author : Jeffrey Hauser
According to Webster's Dictionary: ex-pert n 1. somebody with a great deal of knowledge about, or skill, training, or experience in, a particular field or activity.Let's break this down a bit further, word-by-word, using Mr. Webster, again:(1) somebody: some unspecified person(2) great deal: a large amount(3) knowledge: general awareness or possession of information(4) skill: the ability to do something(5) training: the process of teaching or learning a skill or job(6) experience: active involvement in an activity or exposure to events or people(7) particular: related to one person or thing out of several(8) field: an activity or subject or interest(9) activity: something that somebody takes part in or doesSo, now we have a foundation to build upon in an attempt to discover exactly
who or what, is an expert. Here's the simplified re-definition:"Some unspecified person with a large amount of general awareness about, or
ability, or teaching, or learning, or active involvement, in one thing of interest or
subject that they have taken part in or does."Do you know anyone this might apply to? The qualifications are fairly broad and
therefore you could nominate a few people you already come in contact with almost
daily:(1) any department or grocery store clerk or bagger(2) the mailman or package delivery person(3) the lawn man, housekeeper, or pool guy(4) every service provider, i.e., the beautician, the pet groomer.(5) every repair person(6) every student or teacher(7) every mother, father, or child
If we haven't covered everyone yet, let's throw in anyone breathing and just semi-
comatose. That's probably why I consider myself an expert on any subject ever
written. If you don't believe me, just ask. Any questions?Jeffrey Hauser was a sales consultant for the Bell System Yellow Pages for
nearly 25 years. He graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Advertising
and has a Master's Degree from Monmouth University. He had his own
advertising agency in Scottsdale, Arizona and ran a consulting and design
firm, ABC Advertising. He has authored 6 books and a novel, "Pursuit of the

Raleigh Laser Hair Removal Expert Provides Guidelines on Choosing a Laser for Hair Removal

Author : Kile Law
Laser hair removal has come a long way since the first laser for hair removal received FDA clearance in the mid 1990’s. Older generation lasers were slow, very painful and worked only on individuals with very dark hair and very light skin. Today, lasers can work on all skin colors and some lasers are even safe for treating tanned skinned. When considering a hair removal laser treatment, consumers should ask the following questions:1) Is this laser FDA approved for hair removal on my skin type and hair color? There are several lasers for hair removal available. No one laser is ideal for every individual. Depending on your skin color and hair color, some lasers will be more effective than others. The Ruby Laser:
This is the "original " hair removal laser. Its deep red color at 694nm is very well absorbed by the melanin pigment in hair, making it an excellent choice for fine and light hair. However, because melanin is present in the skin as well, the Ruby laser cannot be used on patients with skin that is not very light, including tanned skin. Because of this limitation, slow repetition rate, and relatively small spot size, Ruby lasers have become less popular for laser hair removal in recent years. The Alexandrite Laser:
This laser produces reddish light. With its large (up to 18mm) spot size and high repetition rate, the Alexandrite laser is the fastest hair removal laser, and is suitable for rapid treatment of large body areas in patient with light to olive complexion. An entire back can be treated in less than 30 minutes. The Diode Laser:
This laser, consists of a high power laser diode emitting infrared (invisible) light at ~800-808nm. The longer wavelength allows deep penetration into the skin and safety for darker skin types, but with less efficacy for lighter and finer hair. The long pulse Nd:YAG:
This laser can be used on all skin types, including tanned skin. Large spot sizes and fast repetition rates allow large areas to be treated quickly. Disadvantages include more discomfort during treatment and less effective clearance for fine and light hairs than the other hair removal lasers.IPL devices are not lasers, because they emit non-coherent light of many different wavelengths. However, because most of the light energy is in the shorter wavelengths, treatment of darker skin types is less effective than with the appropriate laser.2) What is the spot size of the laser?
A larger spot size offers not only the advantage of faster treatment, but also additional safety and efficacy. As spot size increases, a lower percentage of the delivered light energy scatters outside of the treatment area, increasing the depth of pentration, and allowing a lower energy setting to be used for treatment.3) What type of cooling system is the laser equipped with?
It is important that a laser have consistent cooling in order to ensure patient safety and comfort.4) Is there a board-certified physician on site?
Although complications with new lasers for hair removal are rare, in the event of a complication, you need to know who will provide medical attention.5) Are treatments sold in a package or one at a time?
Because every person will respond at a slightly different rate, and some individuals will require more treatments than others for complete clearance, most laser centers will offer individual sessions.6) Are complimentary consultations and spot tests available? You should be able to meet the technician and experience a pulse or two before committing to a treatment.Kile Law owns Blue Water Spa, http://www.bluewaterspa.com a plastic surgery medical spa and laser center with her husband, Dr. Michael Law. Blue Water Spa was voted one of the top four medical spas in America 2005 by American Spa Magazine.
Kile was appointed to the 2005 advisory board of the Day Spa association. She is the winner of the 2004 ABBIES Award for best editorial feature in a spa publication and she was honored as humanitarian of the year in the Spa Industry 2005 by the Southern Spa Conference.

What the Tax Software Companies Don't Want You to Know

Author : Stephanie Gallagher
Haven't done your taxes yet? No problem. Now there is a
new way you can use top tax software programs, like
TurboTax and H&R Block, to get your taxes done quickly and
easily. And the best part is it won't cost you a thing. The secret is an IRS program called Free File, that allows
you to prepare and file your federal tax return
electronically, using these and dozens of other popular tax
software programs, for free!Free File has been around for a few years, but it used to
have very stringent income requirements (i.e., only
taxpayers whose incomes were below a certain level could
use it). This year is the first time the service is being
opened up to 99% of taxpayers.Important: You must go through the IRS official web site in
order to get this deal. Go to http://www.irs.gov and click
on the link at the top of the home page that says Free
File. (Note: It's not on the navigation bar. It's on the
home page itself.)Next, you'll want to click the gray button at the bottom of
the page that says, "Start Now." At this point, you'll
have the option of browsing all of the services offered or
choosing to use the "Guide Me to a Service" wizard to help
you select one. The wizard will ask you a few basic
questions about your age and income and then come back with
a list of companies whose free products meet your needs. Why is the IRS doing this? In a nutshell, to save money.
It's cheaper, faster and easier for them to process returns
electronically. Why should you do it? Because it's cheaper and easier to
file, and you can get your refund faster. Why are the big tax companies offering this deal? They're
trying to get you to upgrade to one of their deluxe
products, which offer things like tax planning advice, the
ability to import data from software you used last year,
etc. Also, state tax programs are not included in this deal. So
the companies probably figure that if you use their free
federal program you'll end up buying their state one.Remember: You must go through the IRS official web site in
order to get this deal. If you go to the tax companies'
sites, you will not get this offer. In fact, some of these
companies not only charge you to do your return online, but
then they'll also hit you with a fee once you try to file
electronically. So you'll pay twice if you don't go
through the IRS web site.Happy tax preparing!Stephanie Gallagher reveals her closely-guarded shopping
secrets in her ezine, The Shopping Mom's Weekly Tip. Click
