The ability to concentrate is one of the critical factors for success. Concentration is the ability to give 100 percent focus on an action, a project, assignment, decision or activity. This does not mean that other priorities are totally set aside. The ability to multi-task (chew gum and walk at the same time) is often necessary. However, when you try to write a letter while on hold on the telephone, I guarantee that one or both will suffer.Where or in what circumstances do you have difficulty concentrating? Here are a few symptoms of the inability to focus or concentrate.1. If you make lots of mistakes or poor decisions.2. If you do not spend adequate time planning.3. You more often pay the price of regret vs. discipline.4. You never ask yourself: does this decision, project or activityhave my full attention?5. Your mind wanders in the middle of an activity or decision.6. If you are often late or unprepared for meetings or events.7. Your mind wanders while in conversations with others?8. You work in a cluttered environment?9. You always seem to be rushing.10. You have the unconscious philosophy that it is easier to do somethingagain, rather than to do it right the first time.11. You often forget ideas or misplace where you put things.Be careful what you focus on, you might just bring it into realty. Many years ago there was a study done. The researchers wanted to determine if there was a relationship between expectations and focus and eventual outcomes. The result was called the Pygmalion Effect. In essence the study found that: what you consistently believe or focus on will eventually come to pass or become reality in your life.Tim Connor, CSP is an internationally renowned sales, management and leadership speaker, trainer and best selling author.
